Rock Emissivity Measurement for Infrared Thermography Engineering Geological Applications

چکیده
Infrared thermography is a growing technology in the engineering geological field both for remote survey of rock masses and as laboratory tool non-destructive characterization intact rock. In this latter case, its utility can be found either from qualitative point view, highlighting thermal contrasts on surface, or quantitative involving study surface temperature variations. Since an object proportional to emissivity, knowledge last value crucial correct calibration instrument achievement reliable outcomes. Although emissivity measured according specific procedures, there not always time possibility carry out such measurements. Therefore, referring literature values useful. frame, paper aims at providing reference belonging 15 types among sedimentary, igneous metamorphic categories, which underwent estimation by employing high-sensitivity camera. The results show that rocks defined “emitters”, with generally ranging 0.89 0.99. Such variability arises their intrinsic properties, presence pores different behavior minerals, conditions, polishing treatments ornamental stones. resulting are reported commented herein each studied lithology, thus only dataset practical use, but also laying foundation further scientific studies, aimed widening aspects investigate through IRT.

Application of infrared thermography in civil engineering
Infrared thermography is a modern measuring method for the examination of redeveloped and non-renovated buildings. Infrared cameras provide a means for temperature measurement in building constructions from the inside as well as from the outside. Thus heat bridges can be detected. It has been shown that infrared thermography is also applicable for finding the exact position of heating tubes or ...
متن کاملExperimental methodology for characterizing flame emissivity of small scale forest fires using infrared thermography techniques
An experimental methodology based on thermography techniques has been developed and implemented with the aim of finding emissivity values of forest fuel flames. In this paper, previous works by different authors are discussed and theoretical fundamentals of heat transfer by radiation and of infrared thermography on which experimental method relies are briefly described. Then, designed methodolo...
متن کاملInfrared Thermography for Temperature Measurement and Non-Destructive Testing
The intensity of the infrared radiation emitted by objects is mainly a function of their temperature. In infrared thermography, this feature is used for multiple purposes: as a health indicator in medical applications, as a sign of malfunction in mechanical and electrical maintenance or as an indicator of heat loss in buildings. This paper presents a review of infrared thermography especially f...
متن کاملApplications of infrared thermography for the investigation of historic structures
This paper contains an overview of infrared thermography and its applications relating to the investigation of historic structures. In particular, this state of the art, non-destructive technique was used for the assessment of various traditional–historical materials and structures after they had been conserved, restored or repaired using, depending on the case, different treatments. Non-destru...
متن کاملEstimation of Ambient Radiation Temperature for Emissivity-corrected Thermography
A non-contact method for the measurement of emissivity, and emissivity-corrected temperatures has been developed, where the ambient radiation-temperature is changed in a discontinuous way. When the ambient radiation-temperature is changed quickly, so that the surface temperature of the object can be assumed to be unchanged, the radiometer output before, and immediately after that change can be ...
